The Agusta Bell 412 helicopter is manufactured by Bell Helicopters and Agusta-Westland under license. It used experience and basic design of the famous Bell UH-1 "huey" helicopter. Development began in the 1970s with first flight August 1979. Several variants of the helicopter are in used. The helicopter is powered by Pratt & Whitney Canada turbo twin pack PT6T-3B-1 with two turboshaft engines producing a total 1,044kW take-off power and 843kW continuous power.

This particular helicopter with code R-02 (serial 25638) was introduced 1994 and used by the Dutch Air Force for SAR duties until end 2014. It flew primarily from Leeuwarden AFB, The Netherlands.

A small number of plastic scale models exist. In 1/72 a good model of Italeri/Revell as well as in 1/48 of Italeri that needs a Belcher Bits conversion set.
