The Bell model 204 / UH-1 / H-1 helicopter first flew in 1956. It had a two bladed rotor system and was originally powered by a single Lycoming T53 engine with 700 - 780 hp. It was a real work horse, reliable and was extensively used in Vietnam bij the US forces and nicknamed "huey". Many versions were developed with stretched fuselages, more powerfull single T53 engines (up to 1400 hp), even twin engines and various systems. Over 17,000 helicopters of this UH-1 family were manufactured and many were exported as well. This fact shows it was an excellent helicopter.
Agusta of Italy also built the type in license with their Gnome engined AB-204 and AB-412 twin PT6 engined versions. The Royal Netherlands Navy used nine AB-204 from 1962 until 1978 and the KLu 3 of the AB-412 for SAR duties from 1995 until 2015. (see also AB-412 walkaround... )
UH-1Y
This UH-1Y of the US Marines is a modern subtype of the UH-1N with Twinpack T400 engines. It was seen at Pensacola air station, Florida, USA.

UH-1H Iroquois
This UH-1H (Bu.no 65-10126) has nickname "Smokey III" and was seen at Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum annex at Washington Dulles International Airport / Chantilly, Virgina (near Washington D.C).

HH-1H Sheriff Ventura County
This HH-1H registred N205SD is used by the Sheriff of Ventura County for fire support tasks and carries a water tank. It was seen at Camarillo Airport.

Standard System colour numbers refer to the Federal Standard system with 5 digit numbered colours. Deviations on real aircraft may occur.
Many many scale models exist of the UH-1, too much to list. The most famous model was in 1/24 from Monogram and Revell had a 1/32 model for centuries. In 1/72 and 1/48 scale the Italeri/ Revell kits are good. In 1/35 Italeri and Dragon have kits. Note that many UH-1 versions exist and the same is true for the various kits but not in all desired scales.
