The Piasecki H-21 Workhorse/Shawnee was designed by Piasecki Helicopter (later Boeing Vertol) end nineteen forties. Developed as a multi-mission helicopter, it could have wheels, skis, or floats. It was also called the "flying banana". It had a Wright engine and twin rotors. After its maiden flight in April 1952, the USAF ordered more than 150 helicopters. In 1962, the H-21 was redesignated the CH-21 in U.S. Army service and was used until end sixties. It was also used by other armies, like the French and also some civilian users had the type for passenger transport.

HU-21B
This HU-21B with serial 53-4326 is located at March Field Air Museum March AFB,CA. It was seized during a drug raid operation in the eighties at Riverside.

H-21C Bundesheer
This H-21C was operated by the (West-)German Bundesheer and coded "83+07". Seen in the Hubschraubermuseum in Bückeburg, Germany.

In 1/72 there is a Hobbycraft model and also a good Italeri model. In 1/48 Fonderie had a kit as well as Special Hobby but now Italeri has a very good 1/48 kit.
