F6-profile

The Hawker Hunter is a subsonic British jet aircraft developed in the 1950s by the Hawker company. The single-seat Hunter entered service as a manoeuvrable fighter aircraft, and later operated in fighter-bomber and reconnaissance roles in numerous conflicts. On 7 September 1953, the modified first prototype broke the world air speed record, achieving 727.63 mph (1,171.01 km/h). Hunters were also used by two RAF display teams; the "Black Arrows" and later the "Blue Diamonds". Two-seat variants remained in use for training and secondary roles with the Royal Air Force (RAF) and Royal Navy until the early 1990s. The Hunter was also widely exported, serving with 21 other air forces including NATO and on other continents. Overall, 1,972 Hunters were produced by Hawker Siddeley and under licence.

Hunter F-6a KLu scheme (Royal Netherlands Air Force / Koninklijke Luchtmacht) rozet

This is a single seater F-6A with a more powerful engine than the F-6. This particular aircraft was built in 1956 and is operated by the Dutch Hawker Hunter Foundation (www.dhhf.nl) since 2008. The aircraft has also a parachute pack and 230 gallon inboard drop tanks. On this plane "N-294" the buzz number on the nose and roundels are a bit different style as on older KLu operational F-6 aircraft of the nineteen sixties and seventies. As this a demo plane, the armament and pilot gunsight in the cockpit are not installed. The aircraft was photographed at Leeuwarden AFB.

Hunter "T-7" KLu scheme (Royal Netherlands Air Force / Koninklijke Luchtmacht) rozet

This aircraft is operated by the by the Dutch Hawker Hunter Foundation and flies air demo's. It is based at Leeuwarden AFB with a paint scheme is for a Dutch AF T-7, but this is a "re-worked aircraft" with code "N-321". This actual Hunter in the past was originally a single seater but was converted for the British Fleet Air Arm into a trainer T-8C. The T-8C looks a lot like a T-7 trainer but has an arrestor hook and it also has large anti-collision light on the fuselage and in front of the air brake. So many details as shown on the pictures are identical to T-7 trainers. At the DHHF the painted nose numbers are in a bit different style than orginally on the old operational KLu Hunter T-7's used in the sixties and seventies. The "N-321" was photographed at Leeuwarden AFB.

Many plastic scale models are available. In 1/72 scale too much to list, but the Revell 1/72 kit is the best along with PJ Production kit. Enthusiasts, modellers and historians can see more on our Dutch Hunter NedMil pages here....

For 1/32 scale Revell (kit recensie...) has an excellent kit, whereas for the two seater FISHER has a conversion set.
