The Saab J-29 was a Swedish jet fighter designed and manufactured by Saab in the 1950s. It was Sweden's second turbojet-powered combat aircraft, the first being the Saab 21R. The J-29 got a swept wing and the prototype flew in September 1948. It was a capable fighter for the period. The S-29C was a photo recon version with an adapted nose. In 1963 the Tunnan was adapted to operate the AIM-9B Sidewinder, license made as the Rb24.
Not less than 661 Tunnans were built from 1950 to 1956, and used by the Swedish Air Force. It was also deployed to Congo during UN operations in 1961 with a contingent from Sweden. The Swedish fighter got replaced in the Swedish Air Force starting 1965 by the Saab Draken. In 1961 30 aircraft were sold to Austria.

In 1/72 scale Heller (with an Airfix re-release) and Matchbox issued kits many years ago. AZ Models and NeoOmega have a 1/48 scale kit. Tarangus from Sweden has released more recently good kits in 1/72 and 1/48 scale. In 1/32 scale a very rudimentary ID models (-Tigger) vacuform existed.
