The Lockheed C-130 Hercules is a four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft designed and built originally by Lockheed, now Lockheed Martin in the fifties. Capable of using unprepared runways for takeoffs and landings, the C-130 was originally designed as a troop, medical evacuation, and cargo transport aircraft. Various versions were developed, like a Vietnam gunship (AC-130), Arctic rescue, transport and Coast Guard version. Over 40 variants of the Hercules serve with more than 60 nations. It is a very dependable work horse. It will remain in service for many years to come.

Numerous scale models exist of the C-130 Hercules. Very old Revell kits at odd scale were issued in the sixties. Airfix had a 1/72 kit, but now much better kits are from Italeri and AMT-ERTL and ESCI although not one kit is without its faults. In 2020 an excellent 1/72 Zvezda C-130H kit was released.

In 1/48 also an Italeri/ TESTORS kit was issued. Some models of the AC-130 gunship were also available e.g Airfix and Italeri. In 1/144 kit were released by Minicraft, Amodel and a very old 1/140 Revell kit. Hasegawa released 1/200 kits

The Netherlands Air Force uses the C-130. Enthusiasts, modellers and historians can see info at our IPMS NedMil C-130 pages....
