The French Dewoitine D.520 was designed as a fighter just before the outbreak of WWII in 1938. It has a Hispano Suiza 12Y-45 engine of 920 hp and a maximum speed of about 520 km/hr. It fought in the Armee de 'l Air during the Battle for France in mid 1940. After the German occupation, production continued under Vichy. It served until 1953 with the French Armee de l'Air.

This D.520 c/n 862 was repainted as no. 277 which was used by GC III/6 in June 1940. It is on display at the French Musee de 'Air et de l'Espace at le Bourget airport, Paris.

Some plastic scale models of the D.520 are: in 1/32 from AZUR, in 1/48 from Tamiya, Fox Echo, LTD, Pend Oreille. In 1/72 scale from FROG (and its copies from AirlInes/ Chematic/ Novo/ Ark/ Eastern Express) and a better Heller / Buzco / SMER kit and from Hasegawa and A+V. RS Models has a nice /172 kit.
