The Fury design was made by the famous designer Sydney Camm and it featured many things of the Tempest. The Fury was developed for both RAF en Fleet Air Arm with first aircraft flown in 1944. The RAF lost interest but work on the navalized Sea Fury continued. The first Sea Fury prototype flew February 1945 so still during the Second World War, powered by a Centaurus XII engine. The first production model, the Sea Fury F Mk X (Fighter, Mk 10), flew in September 1946. The Sea Fury was one of the last propeller driven piston engined fighter and extremely fast, but soon the jet age came. It flew great and many aircraft were built and also exported.
The Royal Netherlands Navy also bought the type for use on their carrier Hr.Ms Karel Doorman. These were known as the Sea Fury F50 Single-seat fighter and the FB51 Single-seat fighter-bomber version.
