The Soviet BMP-1 is an armoured personnel carrier developed in the 1960s. BMP stands for Boyevaya Mashina Pyekhoty 1. It was quite mobile and also could be fitted with anti-tank weapons. It has a 300 hp V6 diesel and could reach a speed of 39 km/hr. Weioght is about 13 tonnes. It was used widely in the Warsaw Pact and Soviet abroad allies with over 20,000 BMP manufactured.

BMP-1 

This BMP-1 from the (former) CzechoSlovakia army is on display in the RAF museum Cosford, U.K.

Plastic scale models of the BMP-1 has appeared in various scales. In 1/35 by AMT/ERTL/ESCI, Accurate Armour, DML, Hobbycraft, Italeri, Dragon, Trumpeter and Zvezda. In 1/72 by ACE, Croco, MMK and others.
